The Tour's values
Since the beginning, one of the Rafa Nadal Tour by Santander’s main goals has been to offer participants the necessary tools to assimilate positive attitudes and behaviors which are essential both in sports and everyday life.
The tour aims to be a platform that contributes to the participants’ personal and athletic development. This is how we understand competition: formative and complementary to their education. To make this possible, we focus on two points:
- Values activities: these are sporting activities and games that are carried out off-court during the tournaments through which the players assimilate and integrate the underlying values that we promote through sport, always from an educational perspective, ensuring that the participants have a good time. All these games and activities are related to sport and tennis. In addition, small talks, feedbacks about matches, their own competition situations, etc. are carried out in order to transmit positive values.
- Competition: competition is the central axis of the tour — but it must be based on fair play, respect (for the opponent, the facilities, tournament organization, etc.) effort and fellowship, among others. The focus should be on how to win and how to lose, beyond the result. This how should go hand in hand with the aforementioned values so that players improve in their day-to-day lives as tennis players and people.
Since these two central components of the tour clearly belong together, we promote these values and attitudes within different areas. Our goal is that players bring these attitudes and behaviors into their daily life and that they play fairly, share their experience and compete through these important values.
We particularly emphasize the importance of behavior both in the competitive context as well as outside the court, so we have created new activities for the 2023 edition in order to put this idea into effect. Regarding the formative component, the involvement and participation of players, families and coaches are enhanced.
Among the different values that favor coexistence and personal and positive growth of children and youth, the activities that constitute the values training at the Rafa Nadal Tour by Santander focus on:
SPORTSMANSHIP
Behaving properly during the practice of a sport and readily accepting any kind of situation.
COMMITMENT
The capacity we have as individuals to fulfill and become aware of any agreement we have previously settled. It involves taking responsibility for any behavior and acting in the right way.
FELLOWSHIP
The friendly and collaborative relationship between different people, with togetherness, empathy, generosity, respect...
EFFORT
The ability to work with discipline to fulfill one's obligations and to take responsibility for one’s performance. It involves acting with perseverance in order to improve oneself.
